Mobile Media Consumption Report
Occasional exclusive reports for The Tab Farm about mobile media consumption involving tablets, e-readers, smartphones, magazines, books and newspapers. Based on the original surveys on the mobile media consumption habits (including e-readers and iPods) that first appeared in the Mobile Media Consumption Report blog. Most of the time, this report will track media consumption on Manhattan’s subway trains running between the 60th and Third Ave. station to the 57th St. and Seventh Ave. station. Two stops. I stay in one car only and I write down all media consumption activity I observe. However, if I see inserted earbuds with wire snaking into a coat/jacket/whatever and I’m unable to see the device, I do not record any media consumption. Therefore smartphone and iPod consumption is probably actually higher. And a word about iPods and iTouches. The newer models look very much like iPhones and I’m sure that their use has been under counted by me. For the record, I have not seen a Discman or Walkman in the more than two years I have been recording this information on and off.
